SKYBUS

SKYBUS -2003, Client: Kineco/Konkan Railways, Brief: To design the body and interiors of the overhead mass transit system planned for Indian cities. Constraints: Pier clearance, Passenger capacity and their entry/exit time. The Project came to us in a partly worked out condition, with a brief to design it and allow for completion of a unit in 1.5 months. With only sketchy 2D autocad drawings to refer to, the entire design was modeled with interiors and structure in 10 days flat. After which the first prototype was ready in 2 months. This would not have been possible without the use of 3D modelling which allowed us to fit body panels and do an interference check even as the 2D drawings were being printed for manufacture. With one unit ready, the project is now being put through its paces, with feedback going into an improved design.

In the completion process. The gap in the front is an emergency door which will provide exit for passengers through an inflatable chute.
Space mainly kept for standing, with large doors that open 4 metres wide and disgorge 80 people in 16 seconds.

Spot the Santro headlights! The only concession made to eagerbeavers who thought round looked too old fashioned. Since this was an interim design, we let it be.
